About

To be seen when we feel invisible. To be heard when our voices are lost in the noisy world around us. To feel understood despite the confusion surrounding us. This is a sense of belonging that we naturally yearn for. This exhibition focuses on the wider theme of what it means to be or to have uniqueness.

By investigating the work of artists including, Eva Hesse, Charles Avery, Yves Klein and Sol LeWitt, L-INK have explored notions of visibility, value and originality. This brought into focus many questions:. What makes you stand out? How much do we show our unique qualities? What is uniqueness?

L-INK have explored this idea through looking at artworks and meeting artists; Mani Kambo, Louise Scott and Mike Collier. This has offered insight into exhibition planning, art as practice and forming visual language and a stronger understanding of ways to communicate broad concepts.

With the notion that uniqueness is both sacred and possessed by all individuals, this experience invites you to reflect upon such qualities in relation to the wider world. The idea of "You" "I" and "Us" is uncovered by L-INK through the different elements of the exhibition. Ultimately highlighting the power of acknowledging our shared humanity. This is summarised in the Filipino phrase, Kapwa, meaning, ‘The Self in the Other’.

L-INK are a group of young people who work with the Hatton Gallery and Laing Art Gallery to create, curate collaborate and offer new perspectives
