About

This informal talk will look at the relationship of printmaking to painting in Pop, with special reference to Roy Lichtenstein and Richard Hamilton, two of the stand-out artists of Pop Art in Britain and America. Both artists responded to imagery from consumer culture, including advertising, comic books and automobiles.

Dr Kevin Lotery is Lecturer in Art History in the Fine Art Department of Newcastle University. In spring 2020, his book The Long Front of Culture: The Independent Group and Exhibition Design will be published as part of the October Books series with MIT Press.
